MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement agencies across South Florida continue to mourn the death of Deputy Devin Jaramillo, who was killed in the line of duty last week while responding to a traffic crash in the Kendall District.
Now, the community is being asked to support Jaramillo’s family during this difficult time.
All donations for Jaramillo’s family are being handled through the Police Officers Assistance Trust (POAT), a trusted 501(c)(3) nonprofit that ensures 100% of the proceeds go directly to the family.
Those wishing to donate can visit www.poat.org or go directly to the secure donation page by clicking here.
When making a donation, supporters are asked to include Jaramillo’s name in the comment section.
“Your generosity will directly support his loved ones as they navigate this unimaginable loss,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “Together, we honor his service, his sacrifice, and his legacy.”
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said Jaramillo, 27, was “brutally attacked” after responding to a crash near the 12200 block of Southwest 128th Street in the Three Lakes neighborhood on Nov. 7.
Good Samaritans called 911 after Jaramillo, a former Coral Gables police officer who joined MDSO last year, was shot, Cordero-Stutz said.
“I ask our community to pray for the family of our fallen deputy, to pray for all of us, because we are family and we are hurting,” she said at the time.
Authorities said the gunman died by suicide after the shooting. A second person was initially detained but later released.
Jaramillo was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he died.
A large procession of deputies and police officers gathered at the hospital and later accompanied his flag-draped casket to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office as hundreds lined the streets in tribute.
Cordero-Stutz described Jaramillo as a “homegrown hero” with a bright future in law enforcement. Before joining the sheriff’s office, he served with the Coral Gables Police Department, where he was named Officer of the Month in 2023.
