Police chase ends in Pompano Beach, but not before suspects reportedly throw cash out window

Chase ends in crash in Pompano Beach

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Law enforcement officers swarmed Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Pompano Beach on Thursday after a pursuit that began in Davie ended there.

During the middle of the chase, along Interstate 95 near Oakland Park Boulevard, the suspects reportedly tossed cash out the window as officers pursued them.

The chase ended in Pompano Beach when the suspects’ white SUV slammed into the pole of a traffic light.

“I hear the ‘woo, woo woo.’ I turned around, I almost got hit by a patrol car,” witness Ernie Richardson told Local 10 News. “I jumped back trying to see what’s going on. Then about 30 seconds later, I see a white car unmanned. I jumped back again.”

Richardson said he saw “money on the seats.”

“I’ve never seen something like this,” he said. “Only in the movies.”

Deputies searched a nearby apartment complex.

“The guys then fled,” Richardson said. “I saw about four of them get out of the car. They were jumping the fence like they were in basic training.”

Video from Sky 10 showed an apparently-handcuffed person being loaded into an ambulance and taken away.

Local 10 News has contacted authorities seeking information about the chase.
