NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — Authorities say an adult was critically injured Wednesday afternoon after a Brightline train collided with a car in North Miami.
The crash happened near the 14100 block of Biscayne Boulevard, in front of the Lexus of North Miami car dealership, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Sky 10 flew over the scene just before 4:30 p.m., capturing the mangled car near the train tracks.
The driver of the car, who was described by witnesses as an elderly male, was transported by air rescue to a nearby trauma center. No further details about his age, identity or the circumstances of the crash were immediately available.
“I know that I heard someone screaming and then when I saw the guy in the car, he was still moving,” said witness Gabriel Torres. “And then I heard a girl, a lady screaming.”
The railroad crossing arm at the intersection was also destroyed in the collision. Authorities said Brightline service continues to operate in the area, though trains are running slower in both directions due to the crash.
First responders told Local 10 News that the train stopped roughly 500 feet from the collision site, and the driver was the only person injured in the incident.
