FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Fort Lauderdale woman is facing an attempted murder charge after police said she tried to set a man on fire in early November.
Police arrested 53-year-old Amy Henry on Monday.
An arrest warrant provides limited details about the allegations against Henry, but it says the incident happened on Nov. 3 in Fort Lauderdale. Investigators said she poured gasoline on the victim.
Police said Monday’s arrest came after Henry called them to report that she was a victim of an aggravated battery.
Investigators said she lied and said her name was “Theresa Channer,” but detectives recognized her from past encounters and the attempted murder warrant.
They said a fingerprint scanner later confirmed Henry’s identity.
It’s not her first time in the news. Hollywood police had previously accused Henry of participating in a pepper-spray attack on an employee at a BJ’s Wholesale Club in 2023.
Those charges were later dropped. A spokesperson for the Broward State Attorney’s Office told Local 10 News in an email that “the prosecutor who reviewed the case determined there was no reasonable likelihood of conviction based on the available evidence.”
As of Thursday, Henry was being held without bond in the North Broward Bureau jail facility in Pompano Beach.
