DAVIE, Fla. — A Davie man is facing more than a dozen felony charges after an employee of a tech repair shop made a disturbing discovery on the 51-year-old’s tablet, leading investigators to find thousands of images depicting child sexual abuse, according to arrest documents obtained by Local 10 News on Friday.
According to the Davie Police Department, William Alton Moon III dropped off his iPad Pro on Nov. 9 at the uBreakiFix store at 6021 Stirling Road, asking that it be repaired due to water damage.
During tests of the device’s functions, an employee opened the camera app, police said. She found a preview picture of what “appeared to be a very young girl, completely naked,” an arrest report states.
It states she opened the Photos app “and discovered numerous photos of children completely naked,” leading her to call DPD.
Police said the worker showed an officer the Photos app, which contained 100 photos of young girls aged 5 to 12. Investigators said a search warrant revealed more than 26,000 photos in his gallery, the “majority” of which depicted child sexual abuse or “child erotica.”
Some of the images appeared to be AI-generated, investigators said.
Police said they served a search warrant on Tuesday at Moon’s home in the 7700 block of Northwest 31st Street. They took Moon into custody just beforehand as he walked his dog nearby.
Investigators said they seized additional devices, including his cellphone.
Records show that as of Friday, he remained jailed at Broward County’s Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach on a $140,000 bond ― $10,000 for each of the 14 charges he faces related to the possession of child sexual abuse material.
