Investigators said surveillance video shows the suspect, Jorge Gomez, walking up to 32-year-old Kanisa Love unprovoked and pushing her, causing her to hit her head in the area of 8099 S. Dixie Highway.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they found Love dead the following morning.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. Deputies were called to the scene the next morning, around 10 a.m. Gomez was taken in for questioning after detectives reviewed the surveillance footage.

In court, a judge granted the state’s motion for pretrial detention. Records show Gomez was on probation following a 2023 grand theft conviction, and his arrest history dates back to 2014.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the location of the incident. MDSO confirmed the victim was pushed at 8099 S. Dixie Highway, near the Metrorail and across the street from the platform, not on the Metrorail platform itself.
