FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — As Thanksgiving approaches, families in Fort Lauderdale lined up early Saturday morning to receive turkeys and groceries during a holiday giveaway.
Local 10 first spoke to recipients Kimbele Edwards and Thelma Coates, who praised the event.
“Last year they didn’t have the funding to provide food for needy families,” said Edwards. “I know that the line can go from here tall the way out to beach. I wanted to beat the rush and I’ve been out here since 4:45 a.m. this morning.”
Coats added, “It means the world to me. I don’t have to go and stand in line trying to find this and trying to find that.”
Organizers distributed Butterball turkeys along with produce, encouraging anyone in need to come by and fill their cars.
“We have plenty of surplus, plenty of produce, plenty of turkeys,” one volunteer said.
The giveaway aims to help families facing food insecurity in Broward County enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal.
