PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A 36-year-old man was arrested Monday after police said he assaulted a Dunkin’ employee during an argument over how long it was taking to prepare his food.
Police said officers were called shortly before noon to the fast-food restaurant at 9121 Pembroke Road in Pembroke Pines for a reported robbery.
When they arrived, an employee told officers she had walked out of the restaurant’s bathroom and saw Timothy Louis arguing with another worker about the wait time for his order.
According to the report, the first employee told Louis, of Hollywood, that she didn’t know how to prepare sandwiches and needed to wait for her co-worker to return from the bathroom.
The other employee briefly re-entered the bathroom in hopes of defusing the argument.
When she came back out, police said, she saw Louis claiming to be on the phone with 911 to request a refund. As she began recording him, police said Louis grabbed a donut tray and said he would take it if he didn’t receive a refund.
Police said Louis noticed he was being recorded and threw the tray at the employee before kicking her in the stomach, causing her to lose her balance and fall.
They said Louis then ran out of the restaurant and fled in a 2022 gray Honda Pilot.
The employee suffered a minor chin cut and stomach pain but refused to be taken to a hospital. Police said they obtained her cellphone video, which showed Louis throwing the tray before the recording ended.
Miramar police later stopped Louis’ SUV, and he was later identified by the employee, leading to his arrest.
The Jamaican native was being held Tuesday afternoon at the Broward Main Jail on a battery charge. His bond was set at $2,500.
