MIAMI — A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges after authorities said he allegedly tried to impersonate a police officer and forcibly enter a Miami home this past weekend.
Jail records show Carlos Adrian Soza is facing one count each of falsely personating a police officer in the commission of a felony, attempted kidnapping, and burglary with assault or battery.
According to authorities, the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. Sunday at a residence near the 2800 block of Southwest 37th Avenue.
Miami police said two victims were asleep when they were awoken by Soza, who was standing over them. One of the victims recognized him from high school.
After entering the room, Soza reportedly said, “I am Miami-Dade police, cops are outside, we need to finish this,” according to the report.
When the victim did not comply, police said Soza tried to grab her, prompting her to kick him in the face. He then fled the home, dropping several personal items, including a water bottle, vape, PlayStation controller, keys, and headphones.
The victims then pursued Soza and said he was seen reaching into his pocket and may have been armed with a knife, the report stated.
Police processed the scene and collected the dropped items. They said no forced entry was reported.
The victims provided a detailed description of Soza and identified him in a photo lineup on Monday.
Police said Soza was located and arrested Tuesday evening by the Miami Police Department’s Tactical Robbery Unit at a separate address.
During a recorded interview, they said Soza invoked his Miranda rights and declined to make a statement.
As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond is listed as “to be set.”
