TAMARAC, Fla. — A normally quiet Tamarac neighborhood turned tense Sunday night after deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said they were called to reports of a man acting recklessly with a gun.
Overnight and into the morning, deputies blanketed the area on Northwest 74th Avenue near North University Drive, responding to multiple calls from residents who reported the man’s dangerous behavior.
Neighbors described hearing gunfire.
“It was two light shots at first, like a boom boom, but then the second round it was a boom then a boom boom,” said neighbor Joshua Oliver.
“It was like boom, boom, boom … really fast,” added Judy Calvo, another neighbor.
Oliver said the man may have fired at others before retreating.
“There were definitely a few shots set off last night on two different occasions,” he said.
Calvo described seeing a fast-developing police response. “He saw some people running and by then there were two cops and in minutes there were seven, and we heard tons of noise,” she said.
The man’s grandmother, who asked to remain unidentified, said she watched in disbelief as the situation unfolded.
“He had an episode … had to stop him from hurting anybody,” she said.
Deputies remained in the neighborhood through the night while processing the scene.
The 35-year-old man is now recovering in the hospital and is expected to be OK, his grandmother told Local 10’s Linnie Supall.
BSO has not yet released any information on the shooting.
