POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A devastating and emotional Friday evening unfolded as loved ones gathered to honor 21-year-old Maurice Harrison, known to many online as Girlalala.
Friends and family filled the room, many in tears, as they paid their respects and mourned her loss.
“We hope to keep her name alive. I can’t believe we’re at a funeral,” said her aunt, Jazz Lesane.
Harrison, a transgender TikTok creator with nearly 300,000 followers, was celebrated for her vibrant personality and influence. Outside the service, a moving digital billboard displayed photos of her and her signature wigs — a visual reminder of the joy she brought to others.
In November, deputies say her boyfriend, 25-year-old Shanoyd Whyte Jr., fatally shot her after an argument inside a car in Lauderdale Lakes.
Lesane described her niece as someone who lived boldly and made others smile.
“She would really just wake up and live her life. A lot of people were inspired by her living her truth, not being afraid,” she said.
The service concluded with a slideshow of Harrison’s life, shown one photo at a time, as a packed crowd mourned a life taken far too soon.
