MARGATE, Fla. — A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot in his bulletproof vest Thursday afternoon. Authorities said they then returned fire on the alleged shooter.
According to deputies, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Burglary Apprehension Team was working an investigation along the 6100 block of Northwest Second Street in Margate at around 2:30 p.m.
Authorities said the deputy did not sustain life-threatening injuries thanks to the vest.
BSO officials said the suspect in the incident also sustained a gunshot wound during the exchange.
Both the deputy and the suspect were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, deputies said.
