MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Police in Miami Beach arrested a man after he was found in sleeping inside an employee-only area of a CVS.
It happened overnight Tuesday into Wednesday at the CVA located at 306 Lincoln Rd.
According to police, officers responded to the store after an employee reported a man who did not work there was asleep in a storage area.
Authorities said they arrived and detained the man, who has been identified as 29-year-old Bryan Rizo.
Police said Rizo refused to speak with investigators, who reviewed surveillance footage that showed Rizo enter the store at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday and remain there until being found by the employee in the storage room at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said Rizo was in “a designated employee-only area that’s secured via a padlock” but did not say how he got inside, and added that while in the area, he consumed various items totaling $180.78.
Additionally, the store’s manager told investigators that Rizo had previously come inside earlier on Tuesday, with surveillance footage that he entered the store at 8:28 p.m. on Tuesday, took two bottles of wine off the shelf and left without paying for them.
The value of the wine was $34.98, police said.
Rizo, who police said was homeless, was subsequently arrested and processed at a Miami Beach holding facility before being taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains after being granted a $1,000 bond on charges of burglary of an occupied structure and petit theft.
