Former WPLG meteorologist Roland Steadham dies in plane crash

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. — A former South Florida meteorologist has passed away.

Roland Steadham, who had worked in meteorology for 35 years, was one of two people killed in a small plane crash in Boise, Idaho on Tuesday morning.

He was the chief meteorologist at a local station there, and an avid pilot.

The longtime forecaster previously spent several years working in South Florida.

Steadham worked weekend mornings at WPLG from 2013 to 2014. He also worked closely with former Local 10 Hurricane Specialist Max Mayfield.

According to Idaho News 6 - KIVITV, where Steadham also once worked, the small plane Steadham was in clipped a power line before crashing into the icy Payette River in Gem County’s Black Canyon shortly before 11 a.m.

Steadham and another man onboard were pronounced dead at the scene.

Steadham is survived by his wife, six daughters, and his grandchildren. He was 67 years old.
