MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a tractor-trailer while attempting to cross Florida’s Turnpike in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities confirmed.

The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near Southwest 40th Street and Bird Road.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho, the man was trying to cross the roadway when he was hit by an oncoming tractor-trailer.

Camacho said the man died at the scene as a result of his injuries. His age and idenitity have not yet been released.

He also confirmed that four travel lanes were closed during the preliminary investigation, but all lanes have since reopened.
