LAUDERHILL, Fla. — Newly-released, expletive-laden body camera video shows a Lauderhill police officer punching a man after a March 8 crash. It would land the 42-year-old cop in trouble with the law.
Officer Jason Reyes is facing a battery charge.
Video of the incident, which happened in the 4200 block of Rock Island Road, shows a testy back-and-forth between Reyes and the man.
It was released by the Broward State Attorney’s Office as part of the discovery process.
“I’m gonna stand right f---ing here because you’re a reckless f---ing individual,” Reyes is heard telling the man at one point, who is swearing at the officer himself.
The verbal war of words continued as Reyes tells the man he’ll put him in handcuffs. The man then says “F--- you” to Reyes and calls him a “lame a-- n----.”
Reyes retorted by calling the man a “lame a-- motherf---er.”
“Do some s--- about it,” Reyes said. “I’ll f---ing crush you either way, bro.”
After the man calls Reyes a “b----,” Reyes tells him to “stand up” and then punches him.
Another officer is heard telling Reyes to stop.
“You’re wrong for that, man,” someone at the scene is heard telling Reyes, who replies, “Wrong for what?”
Reyes, who previously drew praise for his response to a fatal May 2024 crash, was charged with misdemeanor battery in September.
The officer, also the subject of an internal affairs investigation, is set to appear in court in January.
