MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Blue and red lights lit up the area of Northeast Sixth Avenue and 147th Street in northeast Miami-Dade’s Biscayne Gardens area on Christmas Day.
People watched in shock as Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated what they declared as a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian at around 4:30 p.m.
For a few hours, the incident forced drivers traveling from both directions to find another route.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed to Local 10 that the victim was struck by a vehicle and transported to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities said the victim is a young man and that the driver left the scene without stopping. They ran to help him by calling the police.
Witnesses say they did not know the man, but watched him step out onto the street. When the car hit him, the victim flew into the air and landed on the ground.
The pedestrian remained in critical condition as of Friday morning.
