Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Darryl Elliott Clayton, 22, of Montgomery, Alabama, on five grand theft charges on Christmas Day.

According to arrest reports, from Saturday to Tuesday, Clayton repeatedly targeted arriving passengers at MIA, stealing luggage directly from baggage carousels.

Deputies said he sometimes worked with an unidentified accomplice.

The reports state that he often carried the bags into airport bathrooms, removed valuables and abandoned the luggage.

Authorities said they identified Clayton through surveillance footage and spotted him at MIA’s Rental Car Center on Thursday, wearing “the same grey hoodie, with a gold chain and a cross around his neck” as seen in the videos.

Clayton appeared in court on Friday morning; a Miami-Dade judge ordered that he be held on a $7,500 bond and ordered him to stay away from MIA.

As of Friday afternoon, jail records show he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
