LAUDERHILL, Fla. — A woman was killed in a shooting on Christmas Day that police say stemmed from an argument between neighbors in Lauderhill.
Investigators say the incident began as a verbal dispute at the Sunny Lake Apartments complex, located near the 2200 block of Northwest 56th Avenue, and later escalated into gunfire.
Neighbors told Local 10’s Jackie Pascale that people were enjoying Christmas gatherings outside in the parking lot when they heard what sounded like an explosion. Ring camera footage from the scene shows people running in reaction to the gunfire.
Police arrived shortly before 10:30 p.m. and found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities identified the woman as 36-year-old Octavia Stewart.
Neighbors described her as a loving wife, mother, and friend.
Authorities say all individuals involved in the incident have been located and are accounted for, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
No arrests have been made as of Friday night. The investigation remains ongoing.
Thursday’s incident was the second reported fatal shooting this week after police said a man was killed and another was injured after shots were fired at Lauderhill’s Renaissance Point on Monday afternoon.
Anyone with information on both shootings is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
