MIAMI — The post-Christmas travel rush is underway, with airports across the country expecting heavy crowds for the next week.
At Miami International Airport, some travelers are passing through, while others are heading home after spending the holidays with family in South Florida.
“We have lots of holidays this time of year in Europe so we like to travel a little bit,” said traveler Elvio Ciocca. “It’s pretty cold there so we like to come to this side of the world.”
The Transportation Security Administration predicts it will screen more than 44.3 million passengers during the end-of-year holiday period, a record.
AAA ranks Miami and Fort Lauderdale among the top domestic destinations for the 2025 holiday season, driven in part by warm weather. Still, weather issues elsewhere are causing delays, with some travelers reporting hours-long disruptions.
