Coral Springs abandoned clubhouse erupts in flames An abandoned building in the Heron Bay community of Coral Springs was heavily damaged after a fire broke out early Saturday morning.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — An abandoned building in the Heron Bay community of Coral Springs was heavily damaged after a fire broke out early Saturday morning.

The Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department said crews responded to the 11800 block of Heron Bay Boulevard around 4 a.m.

Officials said the building, which once served as the clubhouse for a former golf course, was fully involved. Thick black smoke poured from the roof as firefighters worked to knock down the flames.

A Marriott hotel sits next door, prompting crews to act quickly to prevent the fire from spreading.

Neighbors said the building has long been a familiar part of the community.

“It’s an abandoned golf course. I think they’re building a Lifetime Fitness over there if I’m not mistaken,” said neighbor Vincent Dinolfo. “And so there’s been kids over there enjoying the abandoned clubhouse. There’s usually some kind of vandalism that goes on.”

The fire has since been extinguished, but its cause remains under investigation.
