It began just before 6 a.m. along the 400 block of Second Street.

According to organizers, the course features 26.2 miles of beautiful South Florida scenery and ocean views.

The finish line was located along the 1100 block of Seabreeze Boulevard.

This year’s marathon course was a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, meaning runners had a chance to post a time that could put them one step closer to competing in one of the most prestigious races in the world.

Add in windy conditions and a tough stretch toward the finish, and many say the course tested both physical endurance and mental grit, but despite the challenge, runners said the energy along the course made every mile worth it.

“It’s a great race,” said half-marathon runner Ryan Mytinaz. “There’s a lot of headwind coming back, all the way to the beginning of the race. Nice and slow, but there’s a great atmosphere, great community.”
