FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Sophie, a lively 10-year-old dog, is ready for a new home. She weighs 40 pounds, loves car rides, and is potty trained.
Humane Society of Broward County’s Cherie Wachter said Sophie came from a rural shelter where adoption is less common. Despite her age, she is active and quickly bonds with people.
“She loves belly rubs. One thing that’s important to note is she did have a mass on her that we had to remove, so whoever adopts her just needs to be aware of that,” Wachter said. “But she looks great. She feels super cozy. She has really good breath. I know that because she put her face on my face a little bit ago.”
Also available are two sister cats, Lita and Lolita. The 2-year-old black cats live in a community cat room and are often together, moving wherever the other goes.
“They are beautiful and super friendly,” Wachter said.
Wachter said recent adoption events have been busy.
“Yesterday was super busy. I wanna thank everybody that came out and adopted. I think we sent home like 27 animals, which is fabulous,” she said.
Those interested in adopting Sophie or the cats can visit humanebroward.com to complete a pre-adoption application. The adoption kennel opens at 11 a.m.
