POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — Two men were arrested on Christmas Day after deputies said they “unlawfully” entered a rental vehicle, assaulted the renter, and attempted to forcibly remove him while armed with a gun.

Jail records show Renardo Tajan Coleman, 35, of Tamarac, and Wayne Bernie Hunt, 30, of Margate, face one count each of kidnapping with false imprisonment, robbery with carjacking using a firearm or weapon, and burglary with assault or battery.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of East Sample Road in Pompano Beach on Christmas Day after receiving a disturbance call at around 1 a.m.

Deputies said they witnessed Hunt and Coleman outside a vehicle struggling with the victim when they arrived at the scene.

The victim, who had been renting a 2024 Hyundai from Coleman for approximately $300 per week, told deputies that Coleman had called him on Christmas Eve asking for the car to be returned, according to the report.

The renter said he was unable to return it immediately but planned to do so the following day.

On Christmas Day, the victim said he received another call from Coleman and was sitting inside the Hyundai when both men tracked the vehicle to a parking lot in a Mercedes SUV. The victim said the Mercedes was positioned to block his escape, the report stated.

The victim told deputies that Coleman, who they say was armed with a gun, tried to grab him from the driver’s seat, while Hunt removed personal belongings from the vehicle and threw them to the ground.

Deputies said the victim feared he was being restrained against his will before the pair were taken into custody.

Both men are being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail as of Monday afternoon.
