Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as David Mackey.

They said Mackey was taken into custody outside the Kendale Lakes Branch Library, located at 15205 SW 88th St., after witnesses reported him acting erratically and throwing Christmas ornaments into the roadway, creating traffic hazards and damaging the outside of the library.

Deputies said they observed Mackey tossing ornaments both onto Southwest 88th Street and the library grounds.

While seated in the back of a marked patrol vehicle, Mackey told deputies that he believed he had the right to destroy county property because he “pays taxes,” according to his arrest report. Deputies also said Mackey threatened to kill or harm law enforcement officers.

Jail records show he faces one count of criminal mischief and one count of threatening to kill or harm a law enforcement officer.

He was being held on a $3,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Monday afternoon.
