It happened at K&M Smoke Break, located at 5821 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., on Dec. 27 just after 9 p.m.

Deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office said they responded after receiving a call about an armed robbery.

The victim, a store employee, told deputies at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood that two black men wearing ski masks and hooded sweatshirts entered the shop and asked about the cost of “joints,” according to the report.

The report stated that one suspect left with unpaid merchandise, while the other, who deputies identified as Damari Wilson, got into a fight with the employee.

Investigators said Wilson then allegedly pulled out a gun, pointed it at the employee’s head, and demanded money from the register.

They said Wilson then struck the employee twice in the head with the gun.

The victim complied and gave Wilson the cash, after which both suspects fled on foot with two plastic jugs containing cannabis cigarettes, authorities said. The employee suffered a 2-to 3-inch cut above his left eye, the report stated.

Deputies said surveillance video showed the suspects walking to a nearby location less than 900 feet from the smoke shop. They later served a warrant at Wilson’s home, recovering a black gun and a round of .40-caliber ammunition, according to the report.

Wilson later confessed to the robbery, admitting that he used a black Glock to strike the employee, and expressed remorse in an apology letter to the victim, investigators said.

Jail records show Wilson is facing charges of robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. As of Friday afternoon, he was being held at the Broward Main Jail on a $100,000 bond.

Authorities have not released the name of the second suspect in the armed robbery.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
