Authorities say the situation began at 1 p.m., when Miramar police were called to the 7500 block of Juniper treet. When officers arrived, they said the person involved retreated inside a residence while armed with a gun.

Officers were seen on the ground huddled together, talking and possibly strategizing. Drivers are not able to enter through Bahama Drive off Miramar Parkway, as police have blocked the roadway.

Sky 10 flew over the scene, where an officer was seen walking down the road with a gun. Armored vehicles were parked nearby, and yellow police tape was tied around a white fence and a tree to keep people back.

Neighbors, including families with children, say the situation is alarming.

“I’m just really shocked and surprised at the moment. I hope everybody’s OK,” said Rochaya Reid, who lives nearby. “I hope nobody got hurt in the situation and like to lock yourself inside with the gun you must be something serious going on.”
