HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A large water main break sent water rushing into a Hollywood street Thursday night, disrupting water service and diverting traffic as crews worked overnight to make repairs, city officials said.
The break occurred along Oklahoma Street near A1A and involved a 12-inch water line. The cause of the break has not yet been determined, according to Joanne Hussey, a city of Hollywood spokesperson.
Hussey said crews remained at the scene overnight to locate the damage and begin repairs. Water service is intermittent for customers on the east side of A1A from Arthur Street to Nevada Street.
Video obtained by Local 10 News from viewer Laurene Mesa shows water pouring into the street as multiple cars drove through the flooded roadway.
City officials said the water line remains under pressure and no precautionary boil water advisory has been issued at this time.
However, once repairs are completed, an advisory may be issued. If that happens, they said two consecutive days of testing by the Florida Department of Health would be required before it could be lifted.
Hussey confirmed that roadway contractors are on standby to assist with pavement repairs once the pipe is fixed.
