HIALEAH, Fla. — A man appeared in bond court Sunday, a day after Hialeah police announced that they had arrested him on accusations that he kidnapped and battered his partner.

While the victim was referred to by Hialeah police as the suspect’s longtime girlfriend, she was referred to in court as his wife of four years.

According to Hialeah police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, the victim was visiting acquaintances last Wednesday when Jose Manuel Gonzalez, 49, showed up and forced her into his white pickup truck.

His arrest report states that a witness called 911 after hearing the victim yelling in the area of West 52nd Street and 27th Avenue.

Detectives reviewed surveillance video, which they said showed the victim arriving to the scene in a rideshare vehicle.

Police said the two were seen speaking for a short time before Gonzalez struck the victim with both hands, causing her to fall to the ground.

According to the report, Gonzalez then picked up the woman from the ground, dragged her to his truck and then forcefully placed her in the front passenger seat.

The report states that the victim jumped out of the truck and ran away as Gonzalez was walking to the driver’s side, but he chased her down, punched her multiple times and then dragged her on the ground back to his truck.

According to the report, officers located the suspect and victim Saturday in southwest Miami-Dade.

Police said Gonzalez identified the victim as his wife and said an argument began between them because she is “jealous” and accused him of “being out partying.” He denied hitting her, authorities said.

According to the report, the victim told detectives that she has been in a relationship with Gonzalez for four years and they live together.

She said an argument did ensue over jealously before Gonzalez grabbed her by her hair to forcefully place her in his truck as he wanted to “prove to her (that) he did not have any other set of clothes inside the vehicle,” the report stated.

Gonzalez was arrested on charges of domestic battery and kidnapping.

He appeared in bond court Sunday and was ordered held without bond.
