POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A sergeant with the Broward Sheriff’s Office was arrested Wednesday on allegations that he attacked his wife of 12 years, according to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday.
Jail records show Scott Nelson Nida, who works in Port Everglades, is facing one count each of domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment of a person, and domestic battery.
BSO detectives said 911 dispatchers received a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in Pompano Beach.
The victim, who has lived with Nida for 11 years, told deputies that he first attacked her by grabbing her arm when she attempted to leave the home during an argument over infidelity, according to the report.
The report stated that Nida allegedly “grabbed her face and neck to the point she felt she could not breathe and pushed her to the ground, dragging her across the lawn.”
Deputies said when the victim was able to free herself, she ran toward her vehicle in an attempt to get away.
They said Nida followed her, pushed her into the passenger seat of the vehicle, and drove away until she was able to convince him to let her go.
Nida’s arrest report states that he admitted “everything was his fault” after allegedly attacking her.
Shortly after, deputies said Nida “cleaned her face and told her to put makeup on it to cover the injuries so that the injuries did not appear so apparent.”
They said the victim then left the home and drove to her own residence to meet with her daughter.
Deputies said the victim “had scratch marks to her face and neck and bruises that appeared to be from possible finger imprints to her neck.”
Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony released a statement to Local 10 News in regard to Nida’s arrest.
“Domestic violence is unacceptable especially from someone who is sworn to uphold the law,” Tony wrote. “When a sworn member is accused of this type of crime, they are held to the same standards as any member of the public.”
Authorities said Nida was hired by BSO on Jan. 18, 2005. He is currently on administrative investigative leave without pay.
As of Thursday afternoon, Nida is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.
