DAVIE, Fla. — Davie police have made an arrest in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash from 2024.
The crime happened on Oct. 4, 2024 at approximately 6:09 a.m. along Flamingo Road near Southwest 26th Street.
According to police, the victim, who has been identified as 32-year-old Nicole Bobb, was crossing Flamingo Road when she was struck by a vehicle whose driver did not stop.
It took several months of investigating, but police said they determined the driver was Gregorio Puentes Fuentes, 66, of Sunrise.
Through their investigation, police said they were able to track the vehicle to Fuentes’ home, and surveillance video helped officers narrow down who was driving it at the time of the crash.
According to police, Fuentes returned to his home immediately after the crash, went inside for approximately one minute before coming back out, getting in a different car and driving back to the scene, but never alerting officers.
Police said they used cellphone tower pings to determine Fuentes’ movements before, during, and after the crash.
Investigators determined that the vehicle that Fuentes was driving at the time of the crash, a 2014 Hyundai Tucson, was also used by both of his sons, so officers had to make sure which one of them was driving when the vehicle struck the victim.
Once they were able to confirm who was driving, officers said they arrested Fuentes on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
As of Thursday morning, Fuentes was being held at the Broward Main Jail on a $25,000 bond and was ordered by a judge to surrender his passport if he bonds out.
