Home health aide stole $2,600 from 95-year-old Deerfield Beach woman, deputies say

Kareeka Hutchinson (BSO)

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies say a home health aide took advantage of her position to steal more than $2,600 from a 95-year-old Deerfield Beach woman.

Kareeka Hutchinson, 34, of Margate, is now facing three felony charges, according to court documents obtained by Local 10 News on Thursday.

A BSO arrest warrant states that Hutchinson was assigned to take care of the wheelchair-bound nonagenarian for a company called Better Health from Sept. 25 through Oct. 9.

Through that same period, deputies said she made five unauthorized withdrawals using the woman’s debit card and, on Oct. 10, spent $90.90 at Victoria’s Secret on the senior’s dime.

Investigators said she was seen in surveillance footage at Wells Fargo ATMs in Deerfield Beach and Coconut Creek using the victim’s card.

Deputies arrested Hutchinson on Monday on charges of elderly exploitation, identity theft on a disabled adult and grand theft.

Court records show she later posted a $10,000 bond.
