MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 3-year-old girl drowned early Saturday morning after falling inside a pool at a home near the 11000 block of Southwest 132nd Avenue in southwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a reported near-drowning just before 6 a.m.
When they arrived, deputies said the girl had already been pulled from the pool, and life-saving measures were underway. She was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
Investigators said preliminary information indicates that family members were asleep at the time of the incident, and the girl went to the back of the home, where the pool is located, and fell in.
They said the home where the family was staying is a short-term rental.
Deputies confirmed the investigation is ongoing and urged residents with pools to exercise caution and closely supervise children.
The girl’s identity wasn’t immediately released.
