Surveillance video shows suspects damaging Liberty City home

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Liberty City woman is dealing with damage and fear after someone broke her bedroom window during an early-morning act of vandalism and it was caught on camera.

Monique Jones said surveillance video shows two people riding scooters past her home near Northwest 69th Street and Northwest 21st Court early Saturday.

One of them then walked up to the house and threw a rock through her bedroom window.

“Why my home? What transpired you to come here to break my windows?” Jones said.

The damage means Jones now has to pay to replace the broken window, an expense she said was unnecessary and upsetting.

“I’m terrified. I’m pissed off. My emotions are all over the place,” she said.

After watching the footage, Jones believes the suspects may be teenagers.

“There’s an older one telling the younger one what to do,” she said. “He’s guiding him. Telling him to hit the window one time and also to cover his face.”

Jones said she has lived in the neighborhood for about a year and has had very few issues.

She recalled only one previous incident involving children knocking on her door and running away. Otherwise, she said she keeps to herself and speaks with only a few neighbors.

“With the clothing they were wearing and riding scooters, I’m quite sure they probably are my neighbors,” Jones said.

While leaving the neighborhood, a Local 10 News crew spotted two people wearing clothing similar to those seen in the surveillance video and attempted to confront them.

One face was blurred because police have not confirmed whether anyone has been charged.

Jones reported the incident to the Miami Police Department and said she is waiting to hear what steps will be taken next. She said her main concern is having the window paid for and plans to install a fence around her home.
