Jason Alejandro Rodriguez, 18, turned himself in at the Hialeah Police Department on Monday afternoon.

According to an HPD arrest report, the shooting happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday in the 900 block of East Second Avenue.

Police said they became aware of the shooting after the victim turned up at Mount Sinai Medical Center’s freestanding emergency room off the Palmetto Expressway. She was wounded in the arm.

Authorities said the 18-year-old woman was in the passenger seat of Rodriguez’s ex’s car at the time.

Rodriguez, police said, tried to claim that he opened fire after being “struck in the chest by an egg and a rock” and seeing “a green laser on his body” as the two drove away.

But according to the report, surveillance video refuted the story, saying it shows that he was “never struck by eggs or rocks.“

“Moreover, the video depicts (Rodriguez) exiting his residence well after the rocks and eggs had been thrown and the vehicle is driving off when he discharges multiple rounds at the vehicle as it flees the scene,” the report states. “Also, the video does not depict a green laser being pointed at (him), as he previously advised.

“The video does depict (Rodriguez), using his cellular phone light, collecting what appears to be spent casings from the (ground) and entering his residence after the shooting.”

In addition to attempted murder, Rodriguez is facing a charge of shooting or throwing a deadly missile.

As of Tuesday morning, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with a bond listed as “to be set” in online jail records.
