HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — A Hollywood man is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, after the city’s police department said he used a metal pole and a Tesla as a weapon in a dispute with another man on Tuesday, sending the victim to the intensive care unit.
According to the Hollywood Police Department, the incident happened just before 8 a.m. near Johnson Street and North State Road 7.
Investigators said the victim had gotten into a dispute with Enrique Agustin Santana, 35, as he walked with a woman along the street.
Police said Santana used what one witness described as a “metal pole” to beat the 46-year-old man after the altercation turned physical.
According to an arrest report, Santana then got into a grey Tesla and sped up onto the sidewalk to hit the victim.
Another witness recalled seeing the victim “fly into the air after being hit and over the Tesla before landing on the pavement.”
That witness later saw the electric vehicle at a red light and snapped a photo of the license plate, which was registered to someone who lives with Santana at The Lofts at Hollywood Station, about a half mile west of Young Circle.
Police said when they went to the apartment building, located at 2100 Van Buren St., and saw the car parked in its garage.
Investigators said Santana, who has an “extensive criminal history,” matched the description provided by witnesses and the victim, who was briefly able to speak with detectives at Memorial Regional Hospital’s ICU “before his health took a decline,” owing to “several skull fractures and brain bleeds” he suffered in the attack.
Police said they took Santana into custody that afternoon.
In addition to an attempted murder charge, he faces counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury.
As of Wednesday afternoon, he was being held without bond in the Broward Main Jail, online records show.
