GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Two police officers were shot in the line of duty on Wednesday in Gainesville.
According to authorities, the officers were responding to a shots fired call on East University Avenue near Waldo Road just before 8 a.m. when they spotted a car appearing to leave the scene.
They attempted to stop the car when a man got out and started firing at officers, wounding two of them, police said.
Additional officers responded and shot and killed the suspect, according to authorities.
While investigating the area, officers said they found the body of another person, and they believe that victim’s death is connected to the initial shots fired.
The officers who were shot were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
