DAVIE, Fla. — Thanks to enhancements in DNA technology, the Davie Police Department has reopened a cold case from 1982 in hopes of finally identifying the person who killed a young mother, authorities announced this week.
According to Davie police, on Jan. 21, 1982, Delores Bailey, 24, reported for her overnight shift at a 7-Eleven in Hollywood.
Detectives believe that at some point during her shift she was abducted.
Bailey, who left behind a husband and young son, was reported missing.
Police said her remains were found nearly 11 months later, on Dec. 8, by a landscaper who was working in a wooded area off Griffin Road and Florida’s Turnpike. The remains were identified as Bailey’s with the use of dental records.
According to police, the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Bailey’s death a homicide and confirmed she died from multiple gunshot wounds.
While detectives exhausted all leads, Davie police said they are reopening the cold case 44 years later as advancements in DNA technology could assist in the identification of possible suspects.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. All tips will remain anonymous and a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
