Police: Elderly man hospitalized, pulled from water after losing consciousness while working on boat

Elderly man rushed to hospital after near drowning in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An elderly man was pulled from the water after nearly drowning in Fort Lauderdale.

It happened Saturday around 5:15 p.m. along the 1200 block of 17th Street.

According to Fort Lauderdale police, officers responded after receiving reports of a possible drowning.

Police said an elderly homeowner was in the water cleaning the underside of his boat when he lost consciousness.

Good Samaritans pulled the man from the water and performed CPR until first responders arrived, authorities said.

The man was rushed to Broward General Medical Center by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue as a trauma alert.

There has been no update on his health status, or the circumstances that caused him to become unresponsive while working on his vessel.
