OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — Several people were detained for questioning Tuesday morning after two juveniles were shot inside a gated community in Opa-locka, authorities said.
Local 10 News was outside the Mirage at Sailboat Cove community, at the corner of Northwest 17th Avenue and 143rd Street, after police responded to the area.
Several police cars could be seen about a quarter of a mile back from the main road, along with a tow truck about a block away from the scene near other police vehicles.
According to Opa-locka police, officers arrived at the scene to find two juveniles suffering from gunshot wounds and several people trying to flee the scene.
The victims were airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where they are listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
Authorities said those who tried to flee the scene were detained by officers. Multiple weapons were also seized from a vehicle that might be associated with the shooting, police said.
The ages and identities of the victims have not yet been released, and it’s unclear at this time whether anyone who was detained will be arrested in the case.
Residents in the area told Local 10 News that there’s been a history of incidents in the area, including the shooting of an Uber driver back in July of 2024.
