Police said home surveillance camera video from Sunday shows a boy at a home near the 300 block of Southwest Eighth Avenue chasing a duck to the side of a house, pinning the animal with his hands, and then stomping it until it died before fleeing the scene.

Broward Animal Control was called out to remove the carcass from the pavement on the side of the home.

They said the agency’s animal cruelty unit is still working to identify the attacker.

“It’s brutal,” said Dan Burkett, who lives nearby. “I’m glad someone was there to stop it but yeah it’s really disheartening to see something like that in my backyard.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department or Officer Lowe of the animal crimes unit at 954-579-4944 or by emailing alowe@flpd.gov.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477, online at browardcrimestoppers.org, or by dialing TIPS from any cellphone in the United States.
