PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — Kevonte Irons, the victim of a shooting at a West Park strip club Monday morning, has also been identified as a suspect in a 2024 Pembroke Pines homicide, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
Pembroke Pines police said Irons, 25, was found with a gunshot wound to his neck following a shooting outside the Playhouse Gentlemen’s Club, located at 5775 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd, just before 1 a.m.
They said Irons was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is believed to be paralyzed.
Jail records show Kamari Kewon Gardner, 28, was also arrested on an attempted murder charge in connection with that shooting.
According to Gardner’s arrest report, witnesses saw him and Irons arguing before they got into a tussle. Irons reportedly disarmed Gardner and then fired shots at another male “in an attempt to defend himself.”
Shortly after, deputies said they observed Gardner near the back of the strip club parking lot with a handgun while striking a male wearing all blue.
They said Irons was then seen walking toward the fight when Gardner fired several rounds toward him, striking him in the neck.
It is not known why the men were arguing or whether Gardner and Irons were previously acquainted.
A judge on Tuesday ordered Gardner to be held without bond, prohibited him from possessing guns or ammunition, and instructed him to have no contact with Irons.
Investigators on Tuesday also determined that Irons was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting on October 26, 2024, in Pembroke Pines.
Pembroke Pines police said the victim in that case was found wounded in a crashed Nissan Altima and later died at a hospital.
A second suspect, 23-year-old Calvin Brownlee of Miramar, was taken into custody back on Oct. 27, 2024 and faces one count of first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail as of Tuesday morning.
