Immersive new Titanic exhibit set to open in Boynton Beach

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — A Titanic-inspired experience is making waves in South Florida.

Around every corner of the new Titanic exhibit at South Florida’s PBS in Boynton Beach, there is something to be discovered.

“Sometimes we watch the movie and we read all of these different articles, but when you come here, those stories come to life,” said Anabel Moncada, Marketing and Communications Manager for South Florida PBS.

The exhibit has fragments of the actual Titanic ship and a set of China is the exact replica of what was used on board.

Companies mass-produced pieces like that over 100 years ago, and the one on display just happened to not make it onto the ship.

The experience is set to open to the public on Friday and it also includes a 10 minute virtual reality deep dive to where the Titanic remains today.

“There’s been recent technological advancements in 3D scanning of the remains and taking a look at all of the different aspects of the ship, so we wanted to have an immersive experience to bring people back into that story, said Sadah Espiiproctor, Director of Immersive Media at South Florida PBS.

It’s that same technology that allows visitors to sit in a room at the exhibit and feel like they were a part of that fateful day in April 1912.

South Florida PBS hopes students will take advantage of the exhibit to learn the story and how the tragedy shaped so much about what we know today.

“This is the future and this is a new form of people learning,” said Moncada.

The exhibit will be open Tuesday through Sundays and tickets are $45, though seniors get in for $35 and kids under the age of 12 are free.
