WESTON, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash on Interstate 75 in Weston that left a retired Miami Beach police officer dead Tuesday night.
The Miami Beach Police Department identified the victim Wednesday morning as retired officer and current reserve Officer Kenneth “Kenny” MacLeod.
FHP officials said the crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes of I-75, north of Exit 15 to Royal Palm Boulevard.
According to FHP spokeswoman Indiana Miranda, a gray Volkswagen Jetta was heading south when it struck an Ong 2022 Indian Challenger motorcycle.
Miranda said MacLeod was thrown from his motorcycle.
She said the driver of a black Audi A3 was unable to stop in time and struck the victim, propelling him again.
MacLeod was pronounced dead at the scene.
Miranda said the crash remains under investigation. It’s unclear whether anyone will be charged or cited.
“Kenny honorably served our department from October 1990 to March 2020 and continued his commitment to service as a reserve officer beginning in April 2020,” MBPD posted on social media. “His dedication, service, and legacy will not be forgotten. Please keep the MacLeod family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Funeral arrangements for MacLeod are pending.
