MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Gardens police confirmed Wednesday that professional boxer Gervonta Davis has been arrested.
Davis, 31, was wanted for a domestic violence incident that happened in October.
Detectives said a woman who was allegedly in a relationship with Davis since 2022 claimed he pulled her hair, grabbed her by the throat, and forced her down a stairway before she escaped.
U.S. Marshals helped take Davis into custody Wednesday in Miami’s Design District, authorities said.
He will be facing charges of battery, false imprisonment and attempted kidnapping, according to police. He also faces a civil lawsuit related to the same woman.
Miami Gardens police said on Oct. 29, the alleged victim arrived at the police department with her lawyer, alleging Davis physically abused her.
“The victim reported sustaining minor injuries, including visible bruising to her left arm, at the time the report was made, and sought medical attention,” Miami Gardens police Sgt. Emmanuel Jeanty said.
Investigators said just days prior, surveillance video showed Davis arriving at the Tootsie’s Cabaret gentlemen’s club in Miami Gardens where the victim was working.
“The victim reported that Mr. Davis grabbed her by the back of her head, pulled her hair with one hand and by her throat and forcefully escorted her down a stairway and toward the parking garage while maintaining his grip on the back of her head,” Jeanty said.
Police said the victim was only able to get away after he released her.
This is not Davis’ first run-in with the law involving domestic violence. In 2020 he was seen grabbing his then-girlfriend by the throat at a celebrity basketball game.
In 2022, Local 10 News was there as he bonded out of the Broward County Jail after being arrested for allegedly hitting an ex-girlfriend in the face.
Most recently, in July 2025, Local 10 News was also there as he bonded out of the Miami-Dade County jail after allegedly striking the mother of his child in the back of the head.
Davis appeared in court Thursday morning, where he was ordered held on an $8,500 bond. He was also ordered to stay away from the victim, as well as Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami Gardens.
Davis, who is from Baltimore, is a regular in conversations about the best pound-for-pound boxer. The WBA lightweight champion won his first 30 bouts — 28 by knockout — with his devastating punching power drawing sellout crowds from New York to Washington to Las Vegas.
The boxer had been scheduled to fight Jake Paul in November, but the match was canceled after the civil lawsuit was filed against Davis in Miami.
