Authorities said the incident began on Fort Lauderdale Beach.

According to an arrest report, the victim told officers that he was about to turn left from State Road A1A onto Sunrise Boulevard when a woman later identified as Shaley Joanne Alvarez, 35, cut him off.

Police said as the two drove side-by-side, Alvarez pointed a handgun out the window and said, “Do you know that I am a cop? Pull over!”

Authorities said the man pulled over near the Galleria mall and called 911, “because he believed a traffic stop was being conducted and he was in fear for his life.”

Police arrived and said that Alvarez admitted to having a gun but said she did not point it at the man.

Officers arrested Alvarez on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, impersonating a law enforcement officer in the commission of a felony and improper exhibition of a firearm.

Court records show she was given a $16,000 bond and ordered to have no contact with the victim or possess any guns.

Additional records show that since 2010, she’s received 17 traffic tickets in Broward County and one in Palm Beach County.

Alvarez no longer appeared in Broward jail records as of Friday.
