Kitchen erupts in flames at Fort Lauderdale beach resort; no injuries reported

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Firefighters rescued a dog and a cat and extinguished a blaze early Friday morning at the Ocean Manor Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

Just after 3 a.m., crews responded to a fire burning in the kitchen of an apartment on the ninth floor at 4040 Galt Ocean Blvd., according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

They said no one was injured in the fire, and the dog and cat were safely removed from the apartment.

Although no one was hurt, several floors sustained water damage as a result of the firefighting efforts, according to FLFR.

They said a fire investigator was at the scene working to determine the cause of the blaze.
