AVENTURA, Fla. — An Aventura man surrendered to police Tuesday amid a months-long investigation into him for accusations of possession of child sexual abuse material, authorities confirmed.
According to an arrest report from the Aventura Police Department, a Best Buy Geek Squad manager from the location on Biscayne Boulevard notified police on July 9, 2025, that his team had discovered child sexual abuse material on Edgar Gonzalez’s Dell laptop during a backup process from his laptop to his external USB drive.
Police reviewed the files and determined that the files showed girls between the ages of 10 to 14 exposing their bodies or engaging in sexual activity.
Police said at least some of the victims are from Colombia.
According to the report, a detective met with Gonzalez, 64, of Aventura, when he arrived to pick up his laptop and Gonzalez spontaneously said, “Don’t tell me that guy put something onto my laptop” and “The first thing I thought was that guy was going to slip in some pedophile stuff,” referring to a Best Buy employee.
After being read his Miranda rights, Gonzalez invoked his right to remain silent, authorities said.
Police said the detective then asked Gonzalez if he could see his cellphone and Gonzalez handed it over. Gonzalez’s phone, laptop and external USB drive were then taken by the detective to be investigated further.
According to the report, days later, on July 14, Gonzalez went to another Best Buy in Miami Beach and told a manager there about the Aventura incident, saying he had lived in the Dominican Republic and was dating a woman with children, so the Geek Squad team at the Aventura store might have misinterpreted the content found on his laptop.
Police said a search warrant for Gonzalez’s electronics was obtained and executed on July 31, which revealed that the child pornography on his laptop and external USB drive had been “organized into a directory containing pornography.”
“The CSAM files clearly indicate they contain CSAM,” the report stated. “The files were plainly visible in the directory and were not placed inside a folder or combined with other pornographic content.”
According to the arrest report, Gonzalez was with his attorney Tuesday when he surrendered himself at the Aventura Police Department, where he was arrested on three counts of possession of images showing the sexual performance of a child.
As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
