FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Police are investigating the death of a woman who they said was found at a Fort Lauderdale apartment complex Wednesday morning.
Detectives said they were called to the 1500 block of Southwest Second Street, where a blue tent was set up at the scene to conduct a homicide investigation.
A man who called 911 told Local 10’s Jolena Esperto off-camera that the woman’s body appeared battered and had been covered with cardboard boxes from the trash when he discovered it.
Sky 10 flew over the woman’s body, which was located near a dumpster at Alden Apartments, a complex located next to North Fork Elementary School.
Fort Lauderdale police officers secured the scene, surrounding the area with at least 20–30 patrol vehicles.
Investigators added yellow crime scene tape to block off several buildings in the complex. Detectives photographed the scene and used forensic kits while a crime scene unit assisted.
A detective at the scene said the woman’s body did not show visible injuries, leaving it unclear what might have occurred. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
No other details were immediately released.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-828-5700 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
