It all happened in the early morning hours on Tuesday in northern Miami-Dade County.

According to deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, while in the area of State Road 112 and Okeechobee Road, they observed a marked Hialeah police vehicle attempting to pull over a silver Infiniti G37 in reference to a possible burglary, and then saw the Infiniti take off and try to drive onto State Road 112.

Deputies said the driver, identified as 22-year-old Alexander Navarette, attempted to ram the Hialeah police vehicle, causing the officer behind the wheel to lose control, at which time the deputies took over the pursuit.

Navarette then tried to ram the MDSO vehicle while they were traveling on State Road 112, veering his vehicle to the left and causing the deputies to crash their vehicle into the guard rail, authorities said.

At that time, deputies said they initiated assistance from an MDSO aviation unit, which continued to follow the Infiniti until it eventually crashed, causing property damage near the intersection of Northeast 185th Street and 21st Court in North Miami Beach.

Deputies said they commanded Navarette to get out of his vehicle, which he did, but he then stopped complying with commands, after which deputies “assisted the defendant to the ground and took him into custody.”

There were three additional people inside the vehicle, deputies said, and all were safely removed before being taken into custody.

Authorities said during the pursuit, Navarette exceeded speeds of 125 mph.

While searching his vehicle, deputies said they found two loaded guns, one of which was on the driver side floorboard, within reach of the suspect.

Navarette is now facing multiple felony charges, including fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer using a deadly weapon causing bodily harm, display or use of a firearm while committing a felony and resisting arrest with violence, while also being charged with reckless driving and excessive speeding causing a threat to a person or property.

As of Wednesday morning, he remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with bond listed as “to be set.”
